Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format which is both human-readable and machine-readable.

 The buzz-word "XML" is beginning to pop up all over the Net, and in the Goodies e-mail box. People are wondering what this new language is and how it's going to effect the way people write. To be honest, I was wondering the same thing until I started looking into it.
     Avid readers of HTML Goodies already know that XML is mentioned in two other tutorials (as of 5/11/98): HTML 4.0 and the Active Channel Tutorial. The language is starting to make a few in-roads into the Web and that makes a few people nervous. As one Goodies reader put it, "I just got pretty good with HTML, and now they're bringing out this thing." I feel your pain. Believe me, I do. It means that I will need to learn it all first so that I can teach it to you.
     So, here we go. This first tutorial is an introduction to what the heck this XML thing really is.

 

what is zener diode

Zener diodes are a special kind of diode which permits current to flow in the forward direction. What makes them different from other diodes is that Zener diodes will also allow current to flow in the reverse direction when the voltage is above a certain value. This breakdown voltage is known as the Zener voltage. In a standard diode, the Zener voltage is high, and the diode is permanently damaged if a reverse current above that value is allowed to pass through it. Zener diodes are designed in a way where the Zener voltage is a much lower value. There is a controlled breakdown which does not damage the diode when a reverse current above the Zener voltage passes through a Zener diode.

a unique string of numbers separated by full stops that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.

This number is an exclusive number all information technology devices (printers, routers, modems, et al) use which identifies and allows them the ability to communicate with each other on a computer network.

There is a standard of communication which is called an Internet Protocol standard (IP). In laymans terms it is the same as your home address. In order for you to receive snail mail at home the sending party must have your correct mailing address (IP address) in your town (network) or you do not receive bills, pizza coupons or your tax refund. The same is true for all equipment on the internet. Without this specific address, information cannot be received. IP addresses may either be assigned permanently for an Email server/Business server or a permanent home resident or temporarily, from a pool of available addresses (first come first serve) from your Internet Service Provider. A permanent number may not be available in all areas and may cost extra so be sure to ask your ISP.

Domain Name System (DNS): This allows the IP address to be translated to words. It is much easier for us to remember a word than a series of numbers. The same is true for email addresses.
For example, it is much easier for you to remember a web address name such as whatismyip.com than it is to remember 192.168.1.1 or in the case of email it is much easier to remember email@somedomain.com than email@192.168.1.1

Dynamic IP Address: An IP address that is not static and could change at any time. This IP address is issued to you from a pool of IP addresses allocated by your ISP or DHCP Server. This is for a large number of customers that do not require the same IP Address all the time for a variety of reasons. Your computer will automatically get this number as it logs on to the network and saves you the trouble of having to know details regarding the specific network configurations. This number can be assigned to anyone using a dial-up connection, Wireless and High Speed Internet connections. If you need to run your own email server or web server, it would be best to have a static IP.

Static IP Address: An IP address that is fixed and never changes. This is in contrast to a dynamic IP address which may change at any time. Most ISP's a single static IP or a block of static IP's for a few extra bucks a month.

IP version 4: Currently used by most network devices. However, with more and more computers accessing the internet, IPv4 addresses are running out quickly. Just like in a city, addresses have to be created for new neighborhoods but, if your neighborhood gets too large, you will have to come up with an entire new pool of addresses. IPv4 is limited to 4,294,967,296 addresses.

IP version 5: This is an experimental protocol for UNIX based systems. In keeping with standard UNIX (a computer Operating System) release conventions, all odd-numbered versions are considered experimental. It was never intended to be used by the general public.

IP version 6: The replacement for the aging IPv4. The estimated number of unique addresses for IPv6 is 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 or 2^128.

The old and current standard of addresses was this: 192.168.100.100 the new way can be written different ways but means the same and are all valid:

What is TDS or Tax Deducted at Source

Tax deducted at source (TDS), as the very name implies aims at collection of revenue at the very source of income. It is essentially an indirect method of collecting tax which combines the concepts of “pay as you earn” and “collect as it is being earned.” Its significance to the government lies in the fact that it prepones the collection of tax, ensures a regular source of revenue, provides for a greater reach and wider base for tax. The concept of TDS requires that the person on whom responsibility has been cast, is to deduct tax at the appropriate rates, from payments of specific nature which are being made to a specified recipient. Jailbreaking is the process of removing limitations on iOS, Apple's operating system, on devices running it through the use of software and hardware exploits; such devices include the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and second-generation Apple TV.

Many smartphone, tablet, and game console makers include a layer of Digital Rights Management (DRM) software on their products. This DRM exists either to limit the software you can run on it, or is there for security reasons. Jailbreaking is the process of hacking these devices to bypass DRM restrictions, allowing you to run "unauthorized" software and to make other tweaks to your operating system.

More technically, jailbreaking can be thought of as the process of installing "a modified set of kernel patches (the kernel being the supervisor of the operating system) that allow you to run unsigned code," as saurik explains. It also gives you root-level access, which is otherwise unavailable. The term "root" comes from UNIX, where it is the superuser account that has unrestricted rights and permissions to all files. This provides you with added flexibility, but it also has some inherent dangers (more on that later).

You can alter or install anything onto your phone or tablet such as UI hacks (like the 5-icon dock) or unofficial apps (like classic console emulators) that would not otherwise be accepted into the App Store. Saurik's alternative app store, called Cydia, is arguably the definitive repository of such apps or tweaks. Cydia is so ubiquitous in iOS jailbreaking circles that most jailbreak tools install it automatically.

iPhone hackers first coined the term "jailbreaking" in reference to breaking the iPhone out of Apple’s iTunes “jail.” The term has since been (somewhat erroneously) used in a more general sense to refer to similar hacks made to other platforms like Android, where it's also known as “rooting”. What are the Greenhouse Gases

What are the Greenhouse Gases?

The most significant greenhouse gas is actually water vapor, not something produced directly by humankind in significant amounts. However, even slight increases in atmospheric levels of  carbon dioxide (CO2) can cause a substantial increase in temperature.

Why is this? There are two reasons: First, although the concentrations of these gases are not nearly as large as that of oxygen and nitrogen (the main constituents of the atmosphere), neither oxygen or nitrogen are greenhouse gases. This is because neither has more than two atoms per molecule (i.e. their molecular forms are O2 and N2, respectively), and so they lack the internal vibrational modes that molecules with more than two atoms have. Both water and CO2, for example, have these "internal vibrational modes", and these vibrational modes can absorb and reradiate infrared radiation, which causes the greenhouse effect.

Secondly,  CO2 tends to remain in the atmosphere for a very long time (time scales in the hundreds of years). Water vapor, on the other hand, can easily condense or evaporate, depending on local conditions. Water vapor levels therefore tend to adjust quickly to the prevailing conditions, such that the energy flows from the Sun and re-radiation from the Earth achieve a balance. CO2 tends to remain fairly constant and therefore behave as a controlling factor, rather than a reacting factor. More CO2 means that the balance occurs at higher temperatures and water vapor levels.

Global Warming is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This is a type of greenhouse effect.

Is global warming, caused by human activity, even remotely plausible?

Earth's climate is mostly influenced by the first 6 miles or so of the atmosphere which contains most of the matter making up the atmosphere. This is really a very thin layer if you think about it. In the book The End of Nature, author Bill McKibbin tells of walking three miles to from his cabin in the Adirondack's to buy food. Afterwards, he realized that on this short journey he had traveled a distance equal to that of the layer of the atmosphere where almost all the action of our climate is contained. In fact, if you were to view Earth from space, the principle part of the atmosphere would only be about as thick as the skin on an onion! Realizing this makes it more plausible to suppose that human beings can change the climate. A look at the amount of greenhouse gases we are spewing into the atmosphere (see below), makes it even more plausible.

Some databases have minimal feature sets and only store data, while others include programming languages, facilities and utilities to support enterprise-level applications like ERP and data warehousing. Oracle is the #1 database and has the most advanced feature set.

Oracle is made up of a set of processes running in your operating system. These processes manage how data is stored and how it is accessed. I will cover these processes in detail in the future; but for now we just need to understand that Oracle is a program that is running in the background, maintaining your data for you and figuring out where it should go on your hard drive.

In almost all relational databases, data is accessed through SQL, or Structured Query Language, and Oracle is no exception. SQL allows you to SELECT your data, INSERT new records, UPDATE existing records and DELETE records you want to get rid of. SQL can be embedded in other languages or you can run scripts of SQL directly against the database.

PL/SQL is the procedural language extension to SQL. PL/SQL is a programming language like C, Java or Pascal. In the Oracle world, there is no better way to access your data from inside a program. SQL can be natively embedded in PL/SQL programs. I will be using both SQL and PL/SQL very heavily in my future articles.

PL/SQL is a feature-rich language geared toward developing database applications. PL/SQL is the procedural language of the database, but it is also the procedural language for most of Oracle's tools. Programs that run inside the database are called stored procedures. These stored procedures are almost always PL/SQL, but can be written in Java.

Therefore, many users prefer to use a specific operating system. For example, one user may prefer to use a computer with Mac OS X instead of a Windows-based PC. Another user may prefer an Android-based smartphone instead of an iPhone, which runs the iOS.

When software developers create applications, they must be write and compile them for a specific operating system. This is because each OS communicates with the hardware differently and has a specific application program interface, or API, that the programmer must use. While many popular programs are crossplatform, meaning they have been developed for multiple OSes, some are only available for a single operating system. Therefore, when choosing a computer, it is important to make sure the operating system supports the programs you want to run.

Network Card

Internal Network Cards

Motherboard has a slot for internal network card where it is to be inserted. Internal network cards are of two types in which first type uses Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) connection while the second type uses Industry Standard Architecture (ISA). Network cables are required to provide network access.

External Network Cards

External network cards come in two flavours : Wireless and USB based. Wireless network card need to be inserted into the motherboard but no network cable is required to connect to network

Every computer connected to the internet has a unique public address known as an IP address. The current IP address space (IPv4) consists of 4,294,967,298 addresses. Of these addresses some are reserved for private networks (about 18 million) and others for multicast (about 270 million), so in theory there can never be more than 4 billion computers and servers connected to the internet at any given moment. This is a limiting factor since there are about 7 billion people on earth. There is a new addressing schema being implemented (IPv6) that has 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 possible addresses.

Why does my IP address change?

Some providers want to discourage their clients from running a server (mail, ftp, game or other) on their computer and therefore change the public IP address the user gets regularly. Other providers have fewer addresses than they have subscribers and therefore assign a random address to each user when he connects to the internet and assign that same address to another user after he disconnects. Both these processes are usually done by the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol server (DHCP server).

What is Android One?

Android One is a Google programme where it is partnering with phone companies to create "high-quality" but low-cost Android smartphone. The programme was announced in June by Pichai and India is the first country where the company is launching Android One phones.

According to Google, Android One programme is its attempt to create affordable smartphones so that billions of people who still use a feature phone can buy a smartphone. Of course, this is the stated aim. We suspect that Google has one more motive. With Android One it also wants to wrest back the control of the Android ecosystem from companies like Samsung, Sony and LG.

I get that. But how are Android One phones different from other Android phones? After all, other Android phones also use Google's Android.

True, other Android phones also use Google's Android. But barring the Nexus phones, most of these devices use AOSP version of Android, which is the barebones version of the OS. Different phone companies take AOSP and then put their own user interface and apps in it. They also remove and add features. The end result is not exactly the Android that Google wants you to have. It is the Android that Samsung, LG or HTC want you to get.

For high-end phones, these customisations work decently well. But in the low-end phones, which don't have powerful hardware, the performance suffers.

Android One is different. First of all, it has- despite its similarities with the regular version of Android - some extra customisation that makes it more suitable to low-end hardware. At least that is what Google says. Second, it doesn't have any third-party user interface or unnecessary features. It is the version of Android created by Google. This means when you buy an Android One phone, you get the Android experience that Google has designed for you and not Micromax or Spice.

With normal Android phones, the company selling the phone is responsible for choosing right hardware and software for the devices. For Android One phone, Google is in the driver's seat. It finalises the hardware and software.

More importantly, Google is also responsible for delivering software updates to Android One phones. This means you can expect Android One phones to get latest version of Android - next is Android L -- without much delay unlike normal low-end Android phones, which are rarely updated. Google is promising that every Android One phone will get updates for at least two years.

how to Change Wireless Router Admin Password

 here are the general steps you will need to follow in order to change and/or reset the password on your wireless router:
If you have completely lost the password that you set and need to set the router back to its factory default password, perform the following steps:
Below are general instructions only. Directions vary by make and model of router. Please consult your router's operating manual before performing any kind of reset procedure, and always follow proper safety precautions indicated in your router's documentation.
PLEASE NOTE: The first step in this process will wipe out all of your router's configuration settings and set them back to their out-of-the-box factory defaults. You will have to change all your routers settings such as your wireless network SSID, password, encryption settings, etc, after performing this step.
1. Press and hold the reset button on the back of your wireless router
You will probably have to hold the reset button from 10 to 30 seconds depending on your brand of router. If you hold it for too short a time it will simply reset the router but won't revert back to its factory default settings. On some routers you may have to use a pin or thumbtack to press the button if it is recessed inside the router.
2. Connect a computer to one of your router's Ethernet ports (but not the one that says WAN)
Most router's have a web browser-accessible administrator page that you must log in to in order to access the router's configuration settings. Some routers disable administration via wireless, so you will need to ensure that you are connected to the router via an Ethernet cable before attempting to access the router's configuration page.
3. In the browser address bar, enter the IP address of your router's administration interface
Most routers have what is called a non-routable internal IP address such as 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1. This is an internal address that cannot be accessed from the internet.

Here are the standard admin interface addresses used by some of the more popular wireless router manufactures. You may have to consult your specific router's manual for the correct address. The following list is some of the default IP addresses based on my research and may not be accurate for your specific make or model:

Linksys - 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
DLink - 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1
Apple - 10.0.1.1
ASUS - 192.168.1.1
Buffalo - 192.168.11.1
Netgear - 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.227
4. Enter the default administrator login name (usually "admin") followed by the default administrator password.
You can locate the the default admin name and password for your specific router by checking the manufacturer's website or by Googling "Default Admin Password" followed by your router's brand name and model.
5. Click on the "Admin" page from your router's configuration page and create a strong password
Be sure you enter a strong complex password for your router's admin password. If you ever looe this password you will have to repeat the steps above.

If you didn't lose you router password but just don't know how to change it, you can skip steps 1 and 2 and enter the admin user name and password that you have into step 4. This will allow you to change your wireless router's password without wiping out all your other router's settings.

WhatsApp is a popular instant messaging service for smartphones that needs no introduction. It supports Individual Chats, Broadcasts and Groups. Sometimes users want to change the admin of the group or add new admins as a few powers (like Adding new members, removing members; etc) are only available to admins. Read on to know how to promote more members as admins and how to demote the present admins.

Adding More Admins to WhatsApp Groups

WhatsApp group admins can not only add or remove members, they can now also promote members as admins. Promoting another member as admin will give him/her the power to add or remove members as well. To add more admins:

    1.Open WhatsApp group where you act as an Admin.
    2.Open the list of participants (members) by tapping on group info.
    3.Tap and hold (long tap) on the name or number of the member whom you want to make the admin.

The selected member will be promoted as an Admin.
Removing Admins from WhatsApp Groups

In order to take back the Admin rights of a member, he/she needs to be removed from the group and re-added as there is no other way to remove an Admin.

    2.Tap and hold (long tap) on the other admin’s name/number.
    3.Tap on Remove xyz.
    4.Once the person is removed, re-add him again and he will then act as a normal member.

Changing WhatsApp Group Admin

If the members want to have only one admin, the admin of the group can promote a co-member as an admin and then instruct the member to remove and re-add him to the group. He will no longer have his admin rights thereafter.

lenovo a6000

Lenovo has launched the budget A6000 smartphone in India today, priced at Rs 6,999. The device was first showcased at the CES 2015 and Lenovo has already brought it to India, making it the most affordable 4G smartphone to have launched in the country so far.

Interestingly, Lenovo has opted for a ‘registered sale’ model for this budget phone and it will be available only on Flipkart. Interested buyers can register on the site from today, and registrations will remain open until January 27, 6 pm. The smartphone will go on sale at 2 pm on 28 January and only those who have registered will get a chance to buy the smartphone.

We spent some time with the smartphone during the launch and here’s our first impression of the device.


Design, Screen: It’s impressive that the phone packs a 5-inch HD screen, given that it costs just Rs 6,999. Of course, the biggest plus point of the phone is not the screen but rather the 4G LTE capability, so we’ll get to that later.

The display is fairly sharp, though it’s susceptible to fingerprints. Lenovo hasn’t specified whether the smartphone’s screen is scratch-proof, so we’re guessing you’ll have to buy a screen guard for this device.

The design is fairly standard for what we’ve come to expect from smartphones – it’s 8.2mm thick, although the phone doesn’t look too bulky. The back cover is removable and the volume and power buttons are positioned on the right-side. It’s good to see that Lenovo has gone for a matte instead of a glossy back cover, so it doesn’t look or feel too cheap.

The A6000 smartphone also has stereo speakers on the back that work on Dolby Digital Plus technology. We played a movie on the smartphone and, despite the noise in the background, the sound was fairly crisp and audible.

Storage, Processor, Camera: The A6000 has 1GB of RAM and a 64-bit 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor. It also comes with 8 GB total storage space, which users can expand via a microSD card (32 GB is the limit). Lenovo’s A6000 also has an 8 megapixel rear camera and 2 megapixel front camera.


As far as the speed of the A6000 is concerned, we noticed some lag when switching between apps. That said, it could smoothly play the movie, Avengers and other videos, which came pre-loaded in the demo model.

The cameras, both rear and the front one, do an impressive job at taking photos for a smartphone that’s priced at Rs 6999. The selfie-camera, in particular, impressed us as it shoots without any lag. The zoom option on the rear camera, however, does not produce the sharpest results.

Battery, Connectivity: The device comes with a 2,300mAh removable battery, which Lenovo claims can provide up to 13 hours of calls and up to 11.5 days on standby. Again, 13 hours sounds very impressive for a device is costing less than Rs 10k. The A6000 is a dual-SIM smartphone and supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. It supports the TDD band 40 and FDD band 1,3,7 and 20, which means it would support a variety of LTE networks, both in India and overseas. Unfortunately, 4G is yet to come to Delhi so there was no way to find out how speedy the phone is in practice. The 4G LTE feature is still great for a device that costs just Rs 6999.

The smartphone runs Android 4.4 KitKat, which sports the Vibe UI 2.0 skin.

Conclusion: The Lenovo A6000 is definitely a solid-looking smartphone in the budget category, which will compete with the likes of Redmi 1S and Micromax Yu Yureka.
